There’s something about staying in a place that’s laid-back, secluded and in many ways, basic. But all at once, one where you can also have the grandest times even without exerting a lot of energy. Langkawi, an island located in the west coast of Malaysia, seemed like a promising destination when we suddenly craved for such experience while on a trip in the country. It didn’t take us very long to find and decide to book a suitable accommodation, called the Lavigo Resort, that’s close to the airport so we could go right ahead to enjoying our stay.
Although not as high-end as other known resorts in the rest of the area, Lavigo hooked us with its remote yet seemingly liberating atmosphere. We were impressed with how booking a room went smoothly, and how we were managed direct from our arrival. It felt like we were in this incredibly exclusive and expensive hotel, but really, the rooms are very affordable and good for the entire family! The place exuded a raw yet comforting feeling that we knew we’d be in good hands while on our trip in paradise.

Standard yet clean and refreshing to the eyes, the room measures 160 sq ft and accommodates up to two persons who will share a comfortable queen sized bed. It also has a desk, television, ceiling fan as well as air-conditioner.

Lavigo Resort is located in Pantai Cenang, Jalan Kuala Muda in the Langkawi archipelago in the Andaman Sea. It is around a five-minute drive from the Langkawi International Airport, which can best be accessed by flying for a little over an hour from Kuala Lumpur. Guests can also choose to access it by road or rail up to the town of Kuala Perlis, from where they can take a ferry ride to Langkawi which will take as short as one hour and 15 minutes, the shortest and cheapest of all the ferry routes.
Being close to the airport usually has its drawbacks, such as too much noise from airplanes landing and taking off, but not for Lavigo Resort. In fact, the resort makes up even further by also having several of the island’s attractions nearby, including Elephant Adventures, Tiger! Tiger! Langkawi, Crocodile Adventureland and Taman Buaya for those who like close encounter with local wildlife.
Guests who need a little bit of adrenaline or a day’s adventure can visit the MORAC International Karting Circuit right beside the resort. They can also add in some height by booking a helicopter tour at the Langkawi Outpost Helipad, explore the outlying islands with Island Hopping Langkawi with Ana and ride on a zip-line at the Umgawa Legendary EcoAdventures. Otherwise, they can just choose to chill by Cenang Beach which is a couple of kilometres from the resort.
For more arts, recreation or history, some nearby destinations to consider include Makam Mahsuri, Art in Paradise and Cenang Mall. Around the resort, you will also find three restaurants serving Malaysian, Indian and Thai dishes.
