Entering the hotel for the first time, we were greeted by two magnificent glass chandeliers hanging from the hotel lobby. We were drawn to the polished interior of the hotel; everything seemed so welcoming, from the smooth carpets and warm overtones to the comfy furniture. The classy decor and soft lighting made a walk through the hotel’s corridors feel much like a wander through a regal European palace.
What impressed us the most, however, were the lovely rooms that offered a perfect combination of comfort and opulence. With unbelievably soft mattresses, exquisite furniture and immaculate design, we knew we were going to feel right at home!
On top of all that, we also loved the hotel’s family-friendly facilities. From the unexpected welcome packs for our children and the gorgeous rooftop pools to the Ala Carte children’s menu, our staycation experience was certainly more than just a relaxing respite from the working life; it was truly an enjoyable family staycation that we will remember for years to come!
The first thing that the kids did when we entered the room was to squeal in delight – and we can’t blame them! With two separate rooms (one for the bed and ensuite bathroom, and the other as a living room), the Deluxe Suite strikes a perfect balance between quiet comfort and adequate space for the kids to play.
The pastel-coloured wallpaper and polished woodwork amplified the atmosphere of clean cosiness that promised an absolutely relaxing stay.
We also loved how spacious the living room is – we could spend countless hours playing card games at the huge work desk. The separate living area also came in handy for a cosy family movie night!
However, the plush bed was what caught the kids’ attention; the large mattress was unbelievably comfortable, and the children couldn’t help but jump on the bed whenever they could. We were also allowed to choose from six types of pillows, far beyond the usual Holiday Inn®'s signature option of choosing between the Soft or Firm pillows! I liked the memory pillow which retained my head imprint for maximum comfort while I slept, while my wife took the melody pillow, which had ultra-thin speakers that could play tunes from her phone.
For our children, we chose the hypoallergenic pillows, which relieved feather and dust allergies. With such a wide selection of pillows, as well as an extremely comfortable bed, it was so tempting to simply sleep the mornings away!
For those with smaller families, get the Junior Suite instead! Slightly smaller than the Deluxe Suite, this suite still has everything that the Deluxe Suite has to offer, including the two-room layout. Our children certainly had a comfortable stay in this suite – we always had trouble getting them out of the soft bed!
If you simply desire a more snug family stay, check out the Premier Room! Furnished in the same style as the Suites, but without the separate living room, the Premier Room is ideal for families who just want to laze around in bed and watch television programmes the whole day.
For added luxury, try the Executive Room! Unlike the Premier Room, you get to enjoy the perks of the exclusive Executive Lounge. Both the Premier and Executive Rooms come with either twin beds or a king-sized bed.
Wanting a more lavish staycation than even the already excellent Deluxe Suite? Look no further than the biggest room that the hotel has to offer: the Park View Suite! As its name suggest, the Park View Suite grants you an uninterrupted view of the lush greenery just opposite the hotel.
Wake up on your soft king-sized bed to the amazing view, then saunter over to the living room next door to enjoy an aromatic cup of coffee without disturbing the kids. The Park View Suite will allow you to have an unparalleled family staycation experience!
For those of you wondering where to dine as a family, simply head to Window on the Park! Located on the second floor of the hotel, this restaurant has a wide buffet spread of local and regional cuisines, allowing everyone in the family to satisfy their individual cravings. You can also choose from the Ala Carte menu, which offers western-style options such as burgers and pasta.
What we really liked, though, was how we could make some of our favourite traditional dishes at the DIY counters around the buffet area! We had fun preparing our own Chef’s Signature Singapore Laksa, which thankfully turned out to be unbelievably sumptuous.
Even the children had their own Ala Carte menu! Window on the Park has an entirely different menu catered just for the kids, known as the Kids’ Menu, which encompasses popular options such as the Beef Burger, Pesto Pumpkin Pizza, and the Chicken Ramen. Created in collaboration with Nutrition Australia, a non-profit organisation inspiring healthy eating through nutrition education, information and advisory services, each dish on the menu is nutritionally-balanced! So be rest assured that your kids will get to indulge in a wholesome and hearty meal that’s good for the body.
The serving for each dish is also perfect for two – you can get your children to share, or join in to finish off whatever’s left on their plates. The menu also offers 4 different types of smoothies, all of which are organically-made without any added syrup, offering healthy beverage options for your kids.
With both children and adult pools, the hotel’s rooftop is a perfect place for some family fun! You can join your kids in the children pool, or simply sunbathe on one of the many deckchairs while your kids frolic about in the water. For those with older children, get them paddling in the deeper adult pool while you soak in the nearby jacuzzi! If you opt to stay dry, there’s a shaded poolside lounge for you to relax in while you keep an eye on your kids.
Looking for a more exotic dining option? Head towards Tandoor, which is situated at the basement level of the hotel! This renowned award-winning restaurant has been part of the hotel since 1985, and has impressed guests with its traditional North Indian cuisine and the posh dining setting. I was thoroughly enchanted with Tandoor’s signature dishes, especially the Nimbu Murgh Ka Tikka (chicken delicately-flavoured with lemongrass, kaffir lime and jalapenos) and the Mango Curry. My wife’s favourites were the Murgh Makhani (chicken tikkas cooked in rich, creamy smoked tomato sauce), and the Ajwaini Macchi Tikka (chargrilled fish tikka flavoured with spices).
The children were entertained by the restaurant’s show kitchen, where we could see the chefs preparing our dishes through the full-length glass windows!
The hotel houses numerous chandeliers, which make a stay in the hotel feel more like a vacation in eighteenth-century Europe. Remember to look up during your stay here, you’ll never know where a chandelier might be hanging right above your head. P.S. why not play a game to see how many you can spot!
As a family-friendly hotel, Holiday Inn® Singapore Orchard City Centre has a gift for each of its child guests: an exclusive welcome pack! Consisting of a pack of Faber-Castell colour pencils and a highly-entertaining colouring book, this welcome pack is guaranteed to keep the kids entertained during their stay here. The pack also comes in a transparent plastic pouch, allowing your children to easily bring their own packs wherever they go.
Nestled in the middle of the hotel is the executive lounge, exclusive only to guests in the Executive Rooms or Suites. This area has its own private buffet spread, making it perfect for guests wanting a quiet breakfast away from the usual hotel crowd. The lounge’s location is insulated from the bustling lobby, allowing it to be a tranquil refuge for hotel guests wanting some time to themselves. As the Executive Lounge serves cocktails in the evening, child guests are encouraged to go to the Lobby Lounge & Bar instead.
With its close proximity to the famous Orchard Road, finding a mall from the hotel is virtually effortless! You can spend an entire day shopping along this retail haven, or take a longer walk down to enjoy the a meal at the vibrant Bugis area. The Somerset and Dhoby Ghaut MRT Stations are also easily accessible from the hotel, making it easier for your entire family to head out to other regions in Singapore!
To get to Singapore’s most famous shopping district, all you have to do is just step out of the hotel! From the slick Ion Orchard to the prestigious Ngee Ann City to the hippier Orchard Central, indulge yourself with a wide selection of international brands for fashion accessories, sports apparel and IT items. If shopping gets you hungry, try the myriad of eateries at the various malls, such as the nearby [email protected] For those with kids in tow, keep them entertained with a movie outing at Orchard Cineleisure or Plaza Singapura.
Looking to go somewhere quiet and relaxing for the whole family? Fort Canning Park is the ideal place to be! Just a short walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station, this hill boasts lush greenery, sprawling grounds and remnants of military fortifications from World War II. Have a picnic at the various cupolas or on the vast Fort Canning Green, and soak in the tranquil atmosphere of the park. Alternatively, take your kids on a stroll around the hill, and discover colonial landmarks such as the 9-Pound Cannon and Fort Gate! You can even enter the Battle Box, a museum depicting the final days leading to Singapore’s surrender to the Japanese during World War II.
For those seeking to integrate fun with education, get the entire family down to the National Museum of Singapore! A majority of the museum’s permanent exhibitions explore Singapore’s history, and are offer a highly enriching experience for your children. You can also get the family entertained with the museum’s frequently-conducted family programmes, such as an interactive storytelling session. As the perfect place for your kids to learn and yet have fun, the National Museum of Singapore would be excellent for a family outing!
