“A secluded island retreat tucked away in a little corner of the world”
Beach resorts nowadays are a dime a dozen, and are mostly overrun by tourists. Imagine our delight when we stumbled across Paradise KohYao in Thailand, a hidden gem that we dare say is our best find of the year!
Just a short speedboat ride from Phuket (and trust us when we say that the ride only serves to add to the fun!), Paradise KohYao is a secluded island retreat tucked away in a little corner of the world.
We soaked in spectacular views in every direction – there were majestic limestone cliffs that towered over the bay on one side, and a verdant rainforest on the other. Did we mention that there’s a private beach as well? A glorious private beach complete with crystal-clear turquoise waters and soft pristine white sand.
The thing we liked most, however, was the absolute peace and quiet one could get at this resort. Staying at Paradise KohYao was a much-needed respite from the rest of the world, and it was a wonderful experience. Simply wonderful!
“Revel in the shabby-chic concept complete with white-washed woods and bright natural lighting”
Walking into the room, we felt like we were entering a warm cosy wooden enclave. The only difference was that this little wooden nook was bright and spacious, and fitted with gorgeous turquoise-accented furniture that looked like they came straight out of a cafe! Aside from the chiselled wood trimmings, the whole room was decked out in soothing shades of white and turquoise.
The bed was large and inviting, with a netting elegantly draped above it. It was so inviting that we couldn’t help curling up on it for an hour… or two!
We especially loved the darling swing at the open-air (sala) living area that was all ours for the taking. The thatched roof added to the overall resort feel, and we could even catch a glimpse of the glistening Phang Nha Bay from our room!
We heard that not all rooms have a view of the bay, so we felt really lucky to have scored one! All rooms, however, do overlook the resort grounds and we must say – that’s one heck of a view.
True to its name, the Jacuzzi Studio offers – yep, you guessed it – a private jacuzzi! We loved sliding into the frothy bubbles at the end of the day with a glass of wine in hand. The jacuzzi also overlooks a panorama of lush greenery, and is great to relax in.
Pour in those bubble salts, put on some jazz music and you’ll be all set. If not, the studio also comes equipped with a Satellite TV with international channel selection (yes, programs that we could actually understand!) and a DVD player.
This room has everything we can dream of – a rustic outdoor swing, big marshmallow bed, sweeping views of Phang Nga Bay and a private plunge pool. Yes you read it right – you get your very own PLUNGE POOL! If that isn’t enough, the room is mere steps away from a private beach. We’re sure loving the exclusivity here at the resort! In addition, each room comes with a tropical semi-outdoor bathroom as well, bringing the resort feels to a whole other level.
Splash out in luxury at the Pool Villa, where you can indulge in absolute comfort. The Pool Villa is located directly on the beach with private access – this gives “the beach at your doorstep” a whole new meaning! We couldn’t believe our eyes when we discovered a private pool on top of a jacuzzi; hellllooooo paradise! There’s a gorgeous outdoor living area as well, complete with a private bar. We loved whipping up our own bespoke cocktails with the sound of the waves in the background – take it from us, you’ll probably never want (or need!) to leave this villa at all.
Here you get the VIEW of all views. The Hilltop Villa is known for having one of the best views in all of Thailand over Phang Nga Bay – and we weren’t disappointed one bit! The best part? The villa comes with an infinity pool that OVERLOOKS the bay. It’s crazy! The Hilltop Villa is perfect for family or friends – it comes with 2 master bedrooms, 2 living//dining rooms (we know, that extravagance!), and the top or bottom floor can be used separately. We leave the rest up to your imagination!
“So many things to do, yet so little time!”
What’s a resort without a swimming pool? Situated in an idyllic setting surrounded by trees, the pool is absolutely inviting on a hot summer day. We slathered on lots of suntan lotion, and swam lazily for a couple of hours.
The resort also has a private stretch of beach. Trust us, there’s nothing quite like taking a walk along the shore and feeling the waves lapping at your toes. If you’ve got a special someone, this is the place for that romantic walk! Plus, there are lots of deckchairs positioned by the pool as well as on the beach should you desire a languid lounge.
Be spoilt for choice at either the Seafood Terrace Restaurant or Al Fresco Restaurant – each serving up scrumptious offerings in a tranquil setting. The Al Fresco Restaurant is located right on the beach, and is best known for its wood-fired pizza oven. The Seafood Terrace is a covered open-air restaurant, and hosts themed buffet nights at least three times a week!
Choose from Seafood BBQ Night, Thai Night, Japanese Night, Wok Fried Night and more. And true to its name, the Seafood Terrace is where you can find some of the freshest seafood in the region. Our favourite dish was a platter of plump juicy oysters - so fresh, we could practically taste the salt water!
The Beach Club Bar is conveniently located between the infinity pool and the Andaman Sea, and is perfect for when you feel peckish after a swim. Down a couple of refreshing fruit shakes or enjoy a cool beer in the shade of the trees whilst sprawled on beanbags or in cabanas perched on the sand.
After a long day, unwind at the Sundowners Bar where there’s live music entertainment on most evenings. Whether you’re travelling solo, with friends or with family – you’ll find many a good conversation and a wide range of tropical cocktails right here at the Sundowners Bar, which is a great place to make friends!
Let go of all your tensions at Spa @ Paradise, a soothing spa nestled into the tropical jungle. What caught our eye were the Waterfall Plunge Pool and the Herbal Steam ‘Cave’ underneath – it seemed like a scene right out out of ‘The Jungle Book’!
We chose to have our massage at the Beach Club’s new Beachfront Spa Salas; it took us really long to pick but we eventually settled on hot stone massages for the ladies and facials for the men. In fact, there were so many treatments available – body scrubs & wraps, all kinds of massages, pedicures & manicures and so on – that we wish we had the time to try them all!
There are just so many activities to do here at the resort, we literally didn’t know where to begin! We couldn’t resist signing up for a Thai cooking class (homemade tom yum goong, come to Mama!), a snorkelling day trip as well as kayaking. However, the resort also offers mountain biking, batik painting classes, village sunset tours, boat rentals and more.
For couples looking for something a little more special, the resort is also able to organise a private candlelight dinner right on the beach!
Choose from a Thai or Western set menu, and you’ll even get your own private waiter that will take care of you from a distance. Personalised menus are also available upon request. Just FYI our future boyfriends, just FYI.
Feast your eyes on these majestic birds that fly through the resort in a large flock in the mornings and evenings. They’re a common sight here at Paradise KohYao, and are a breathtaking sight to behold!
The resort organises yoga and meditation classes twice daily at the Beachfront Sala overlooking Phang Nga Bay. It doesn’t get more zen this this!
Drink in the unparalleled views during high tide and, when low tide occurs, grab the chance to walk along the reef with your bare feet. It’s a really unique experience – you just gotta try it for yourself!
Paradise KohYao can be reached from either Phuket or Krabi.
For arrivals from Phuket – fly into Phuket via Phuket International Airport and take a 20-minute taxi ride to Bang Rong Pier, where the resort can be reached by a 60-minute long-tail boat ride from the Bang Rong Pier followed by a 30-minute 4x4 drive to the resort.
From arrivals from Krabi – fly into Krabi via Krabi International Airport and take a 45-minute taxi ride to Tha Lane Pier followed by a 30-minute 4x4 drive to the resort.
Alternatively, Paradise KohYao can pick you up straight from the airport or any hotel in Phuket or Krabi and transport you directly to the resort via private limousine or minibus and speedboat.
The islands around Koh Yao Noi & Krabi, as well as Phang Nga Bay, are stunningly beautiful and are best explored by long-tail boat or by the resort’s own catamaran on an island-hopping tour. Go swimming or snorkelling, or simply soak in the views and atmosphere.
We also highly recommend the local village tour – you’ll get to gain an insight into local life, as well as explore the local markets.
If you have time, you can even go on a traditional fishing tour! There are plenty of other activities to do in the area as well, from jungle trekking, mountain biking to scuba diving.... We guarantee you’ll never be bored.
