Luxury, nature and culture perfectly blend in this place you can call home
The ritzy 4-hectare Bluewater Panglao Beach Resort is tucked right at the heart of Bohol’s Panglao Island, an unadulterated island surrounded by white sand coasts and sparkling clear blue waters.
Designed by Benji Reyes, the modern Filipino architecture is reflected all over the resort’s facilities making it a real feast to the eyes. All of the resort’s structures exude beauty, simplicity, and opulence, perfect for a comfortable and relaxing getaway.
Other remarkable resort features that our eyes did not fail to notice when we arrived were the stunning gardens and the two large main pools. The clean pool waters and the well-maintained poolside area made for a very inviting ambience. These things extraordinarily captured the grandeur of Bohol in just one place.
The staff were super accommodating, helpful, polite, and courteous. The cordiality they showed us was genuine, making us feel like we were long-time friends if not family members. This made the resort stood out!
Veiled from the rest of the world by the vastness of the sky and sea and the richness of the dense tropical gardens, the resort provided us with a perfect escape. And since we wanted to detach ourselves from the hubbub and the blinding luminescence of the concrete jungle, Bluewater Panglao never failed us. The hospitality in this place is oozing. We will certainly be coming back here when the next opportunity knocks.
At 42.22 sqm, our accommodation may be the smallest of all the resort’s rooms, but it still has all the luxuries of its bigger contemporaries and is very comfortable. It has a contemporary design that captures Bohol’s natural beauty to boot. It also has five-star rated amenities, which include a selection of either a king- or two queen-sized beds, mini bar, a TV set hooked to premium cable channels, an in-room IDD telephone, and coffee- and tea-making facility. But what we loved the most about our room was the lovely main pool view from our very own private verandah. It gave us an experience like no other. We also liked its large sky-lit bathroom equipped with a freestanding bathtub and a separate shower, which we used lavishly, of course!
As the name suggests, the two-storey Family Loft is perfect for travelling families. With 56.81 sqm on the second floor and 63.9 sqm on the first floor, it can comfortably accommodate a group of four. The soft bed and all the in-room amenities will truly make every family feel just right at home. But what really caught our attention was the loft’s private verandah which gave us a breath of fresh air and wonderful view of the surroundings. Mom and dad can chill here while their kids play and explore the child-friendly facilities of the resort.
One Bedroom Villa
For romantic couples and honeymooners, the One Bedroom Villa is ideal for you because it is designed to give utmost privacy and intimacy. Stepping inside the villa gave us an unobstructed view of the resort’s extensive gardens from its own viewing deck. And the 2.5 sqm dipping pool? It almost immediately made us strip onto our swimwear! We should say it was perfect for cooling down after a romantic walk along the beach. With the villa’s king-sized bed, mini bar, and all the other in-room state-of-the-art amenities, you will not go wrong spending a quality time with your lovey-dovey here.
Two Bedroom Villa
This luxurious Two Bedroom Villa has two adjacent rooms with an open-air viewing deck in between the rooms. Of all the resort’s accommodations, this one provided the most living space. The bathtub is spectacularly refreshing, and its own dipping pool is so inviting, any guest would surely want to dip right in. What we like the most here, though, is the viewing deck overlooking the famed gardens of Bluewater Panglao. We could stay whole day here if not for the resort’s other beautiful amenities that are also worth trying.
The nightly themed dinners at the Aplaya were among the best there is at Bluewater Panglao, especially the Fishing Village Fridays and Barrio Fiesta Saturdays. We truly had an enlightening cultural experience through folk dances and live entertainment as we feasted our stomachs out. The resort had the freshest seafood we ever tasted. But the adobo rice and Bluewater lechon kawali were our favourites. And, of course, even though we don’t relish sweets that much, Bluewater’s ube kinampay (purple yam dessert) was too mouthwatering not to be tasted.
Indulge in a variety of spirits and concoctions at the Baroto Poolside Bar. Relax and have fun with other guests as you enjoy your choice of beverage while marvelling at the cool view of the main pool with its specially designed isle and bridge. After our last night’s dinner, we spent our time here until they closed. The cool lights illuminating the bar and the unmistakable sea breeze complemented the dry taste of our favourite drink, which to us was heavenly.
Boost your Bluewater Panglao getaway with a royal pampering at the resort’s Amuma Spa. Amuma is a Visayan word meaning to indulge with every attention, comfort, and care. The spa offers a blend of unique ancient Filipino, Western, and Asian therapies. They had the exclusive Hilot Lamang, Hilot Ablon (Dry Massage), Hingut-an (Head Massage), and Pikpik sa Kawayan sa Siki (a special foot massage using bamboo). True to the core, the experienced Amuma Spa therapists gave us the warm, gracious attention that we needed after a few days of exploring and enjoying the fun activities under the island sun. The Hilot Ablon along with the Pikpik sa Kawayan sa Siki were the most rejuvenating among the spa treatments we have had in the longest time.
Bluewater Panglao has a lot of adrenaline-pumping adventures in and around the resort. Pedal your way through the challenging off-road trails inside the resort or you can venture leisurely outside riding around Panglao Island. Since we are always on the lookout for an extreme experience, we roamed around the resort riding an All-Terrain Vehicle. We whizzed past through other thrill seekers in a carefree manner while getting a kick of the soothing Bohol breeze over our skin. We also let out the child in us by conquering the resort’s Duwaanan Obstacle Course. It was pure fun without even leaving the resort’s premises!
Other fun and relaxing activities you can try are the guided island eco and adventure tours, fishing, duckpin bowling, and mango picking if you are lucky enough to be there during harvest season every July. You can also kill time by playing board games at the resort’s indoor game room, or travel around the world through books courtesy of the resort’s mini library.
1. The beds seem like they’re floating in mid-air
At Bluewater Panglao, you’ll have a rare chance to see and sleep on a bed that seems to float in mid-air. The beds in all the rooms and villas are actually cantilevered, meaning, there are no visible legs and the structure supporting the beds cannot be seen, hence, giving you a feeling that the beds are floating even when then they’re not. Don’t worry because the beds are very secure and won’t break.
2. Watch Netflix movies all you want
Feel like watching in-demand movies? Bluewater Panglao is the only resort there is that has free Netflix access on their One Bedroom and Two Bedroom Villas. Don’t have a Netflix account? Don’t worry because the resort is ready to lend you their account.
3. The resort has an in-house nursery
Some ingredients of the sumptuous dishes of the Aplaya Restaurant come from the resort’s nursery itself so guests are served with the freshest food here. What’s more, the resort’s Grounds and Garden team may also teach you some gardening tricks for some hands-on gardening experience.
4. 16 fruit-bearing mango trees grow in the property
During the July harvest season, the resort allows their guests to experience harvesting mangoes from their 16 fruit-bearing mango trees. The G&G team will guide you how to pick mangoes properly. And if you want to taste how sweet Bluewater’s mangoes are, you can actually purchase them and turn them into a delectable salad or a fruit shake. But don’t forget to bring some home with you to share with others.
5. The resort has a penchant for things that are big
Yes, Bluewater Panglao likes it BIG! From the big bathtubs and comfort rooms nearly half the size of the rooms to the giant bamboo house called Kawayanan, and the colossal Jenga blocks and dominoes – you can enjoy all these and more during your stay.
6. Bluewater Panglao is the youngest among the three Bluewater Resorts
Aside from being the newest Bluewater Resort addition, Bluewater Panglao is the only Bluewater Resort outside Cebu (for now). The other two are Bluewater Maribago, which is located in Mactan, Cebu, and the other is Bluewater Sumilon located in Oslob, Cebu. Bluewater Panglao just turned six years old last 31 July 2017 and continues to be terrific at six!
