All in all, 2019 proved to be a great year for Philippine tourism. Aside from the upsurge of tourist arrivals, two local airports and three cities were lauded as some of the best and cleanest in Asia, respectively. For these milestones (and countless more), hotels played a crucial role in ensuring each visitor experienced only the best of what the country has to offer — starting with their accommodations. Will these new hotels in the Philippines continue that streak?

1. Hotel Okura Manila

Originally slated to open in 2018, Hotel Okura Manila will be the latest addition to the lineup of luxury hotels at Resorts World Manila, a premier integrated resort complex in the Philippines. As one of the new hotels in the Philippines, the 188-room property will offer Japan’s distinct Okura-style hospitality and state-of-the-art amenities. Chief among them is Okura Nikko’s fine-dining go-to, Yamazato, which had its soft opening in December 2019.

2. Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort

Marriott International Inc. has had its eyes on Cebu even before the successful opening of Sheraton Manila Hotel. With its terraced swimming pools and beachfront location, Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort will likely become the city’s newest coveted summer hot spot. Not to mention, one of Mactan Island’s most stunning business-friendly destinations! The resort will also feature the full-service spa, the Shine Spa for Sheraton, an innovative all-day dining restaurant serving international cuisines, and well-appointed meeting spaces.

3. dusitD2 Waves Hotel

Thanks to its accessibility from Metro Manila, La Union has quickly become a preferred destination among weekend wanderers, as well as those exploring more of Central and Northern Luzon. Soon, both markets can enjoy the grandeur of the Dusit International brand with the opening of dusitD2 Waves Hotel. Its most anticipated facilities include 200 rooms overlooking the South China Sea, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a mini cinema, and a 1,000-pax function hall!

4. Four Points Palawan Sabang Beach

Other than Sheraton Mactan Cebu Resort, Marriott International is also expanding to the Philippines’ last frontier. This will be in the form of Four Points Palawan Sabang Beach. The hotel will be the renovated and rebranded Sheridan Beach Resort, which is part of the company’s target of having 1,000 hotels in the Asia Pacific by 2020. It’s said that the hotel conversion will cost up to US$8 million!

5. Seda Hotels

Seda Hotels by Ayala Land Inc. has recently been breaking grounds with the addition of brand new hotels in 2019. The major property developer will carry on its efforts onto 2020 by welcoming three more projects. These are Seda Manila Bay, Seda Nuvali’s second tower, and Seda Central Bloc Cebu, which will be the brand’s first venture into apartment suites in the Visayas area. All these are integrated into Seda Hotel’s plans of hitting 3,268 rooms by this year.

6. Fairfield by Marriott Cebu

The new Fairfield by Marriott Cebu is set to kickstart the Fairfield hotel brand in the Philippines. It will also bring back the chain’s presence in Cebu after an almost three-year hiatus. Mainly targeting business travellers, the hotel will stand within the soon-to-open JY Square Mandaue. It is a mixed-use development building comprising of retail and office spaces. So far, we know that the hotel will feature 146 rooms, a communal workspace, conference rooms, and, obviously, direct access to JY Square Mandaue!

7. Hotel 101 Resort Boracay

Boracay became the face of sustainable tourism in the Philippines after it underwent rehabilitation in 2018. Soon, it will also be home to the largest eco-friendly hotel in the country, Hotel 101 Resort Boracay. Located on a beachfront cove in Boracay Newcoast, the newest Hotel 101 property will have over 1,000 rooms. Fun fact: The island's leading integrated tourism estate itself continues to promote green practises through the use of electric jeepneys and solar-powered street lamps, among other things!

With these new hotels in the Philippines (plus its stunning attractions, cuisines and the people), I don’t see why you shouldn’t visit this exquisite country anytime soon.
