When we hear of Indonesia, its stunning romantic beaches, mystical forests and majestic peaks immediately come to mind. But through all the country’s natural wonders, are impressive cultural landmarks that have stood the test of time. While we found plenty of options from our research, the traditional city of Solo caught our attention the most, and it wasn’t long before we decided to stay at one of its most sought-after hotels, Alila Solo. We imagined staying in a modern luxury hotel sitting in the middle of a traditional city to be an interesting combination, and we weren’t disappointed.

A mere 15-minute drive from Adi Sumarmo International Airport, Alila Solo is the tallest building in Central Java. It proves that something as luxurious can exist even in a place that heavily values tradition and culture. Arriving here, we immediately took notice of the avant-garde facilities, fine architecture and designs, and the incredibly attentive staff.

Every time we finished our daily activities in and outside the city, we’d always make sure to climb up to the rooftop to relax or lounge at the hotel’s massive swimming pool, which gave us the feeling of being in a resort. Otherwise, we would be enjoying a private time in our cosy bedrooms, which are simply remarkable, to put it mildly. As up-to-date travellers, we also appreciated the newspapers the staff would deliver to us every day and the fast WiFi connection, which was really convenient as we had to stay connected with colleagues, our families and occasionally share trip photos on social media.

If you ever wander around this side of Indonesia, make sure to check out Alila Solo for a cultural yet luxurious stay.
