Up your romantic game with the Qool Weekend Staycation.
Like all couples, my boyfriend and I are always on the lookout for fun things to do together on our precious date weekends. So when we stumbled across The Quincy Hotel’s Qool Weekend Package, how could we resist? We just had to try it for ourselves!
The Quincy Hotel is a nondescript building tucked away in a corner of Orchard Road. It’s strategically located behind Paragon in a quiet enclave – perfect for those wanting some peace and quiet, yet with glitzy malls and bustling streets of Orchard Road only a short walk away. Plus, the hotel totally looks like an art gallery with lots of Insta-worthy photo spots, so knock yourself out!
The Qool Weekend Package is a godsend for couples – it’s no ordinary staycation, mind you; it comes with a 2D1N stay inclusive of buffet breakfast for 2, All-Day light refreshments, evening (free-flow!) cocktails, as well as a complimentary in-room mini-bar that’s replenished daily.
On top of that, couples can even choose to participate in QOOKIELICIOUS class and cuddle up during Movie Night by the Pool on Saturdays at 9pm. As if that isn’t enough, the package even gifts each couple with a bath treat from LUSH (bath bomb/bubble bath). Doesn’t that just sound awesome!
We stayed in a Studio Room, which was a brightly-lit spacious room that didn’t shortchange on the cosiness factor as well. Our favourite part was the bay window seat positioned right next to giant windows. We loved how the seat was just the right size for both of us to sit on and watch TV comfortably!
Every room comes with a complimentary in-room mini-bar that offers soft drinks, soya milk, chips and even beer. The best part? All these are replenished daily. This is our first time finding a FREE mini-bar – all our woes of staring longingly at the overpriced drinks in the mini-bar are long gone, because now everything inside was free for our taking! We were also delighted to discover a Handy smartphone that’s equipped with both Wi-Fi & 3G – perfect for streaming videos or looking up something on the go. It’s a nifty little device that will come in handy especially for foreign travellers!
There’s both a bathtub AND a rainshower as well; all we needed to do was to put on some music, throw in the complimentary bath bomb from LUSH and let the tub fill with bubbles. Pure bliss!
The Studio Deluxe Room is the larger counterpart of the Studio Room. Besides being larger in size, it comes with a comfy plush chair as well as a Nespresso coffee machine! So all you sleepless coffee maniacs, you know which room to choose ;)
Did we mention how absolutely comfortable the bed is? It’s like sleeping on a cloud, and is great for pillow fights as well!
‘The Lobby’ on the first floor serves All-Day light refreshments and buffet breakfast in the mornings, as well as light lunches and dinners. The All-Day light refreshments include a DIY soft-serve machine as well as juices, muffins, nuts, cookies and the like. We especially loved the takeaway cups for the coffee machines, which allowed us to bring up piping hot cups of coffee and tea to our room.
Breakfast is served here as well, and offers a hearty spread of cereal, eggs, cheese, salad, bacon, pasta and more. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that we could order eggs to our liking as well; sunny side ups and omelettes, please! We traipsed down at noon for lunch and indulged in heartwarming bowls of minestrone soup, sandwiches as well as a steaming bowl of mee siam. The lunch may be called ‘light’, but all the food was more than enough to fill our stomachs!
The hotel offers free-flow cocktails, wine, beer and spirits every evening from 6.30-8pm. How sweet is that!
We ordered a Singapore Sling which came in a gorgeous glass, as well as the signature Qool Cuba that contains rum with pineapple and orange juice. The staff are really attentive, and regularly top up your wine glasses without you needing to ask for refills.
A ‘light’ dinner was served as well but, again, the spread was extensive and we were able to eat to our heart’s content.
The choices vary daily, but we dined on pasta, nasi goreng, grilled shrimps, canapes as well as cheese and crackers during our stay. We chose to dine alfresco for the added feels, and had a lovely evening munching on our food and downing glass after glass of wine.
This was the highlight of our stay – a chocolate truffle making class from 3-4pm for check-ins on Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays. Pssst, this is your chance to see your other half in a spiffy pink apron! We got all dolled up, and got right down to work. Remember to book your slots in advance to ensure availability!
We first melted chocolate in a warm water bath, added milk to the mixture and crushed peanuts for the topping. We were also given chocolate powder and rainbow sprinkles to use as per our liking.
It was really fun rolling the truffles into shape, and working in sync with each other! Trust us, teamwork is key in this activity.
At the end of the class, we even got to bring home the fruits of our labour. P.S. They were super yummy too! The chocolate truffles were really easy to make, and make great gifts for family and friends.
*As of 28 April 2017, The Truffle Making and Art-Jamming workshops have been changed and replaced by the Qookielicious couple activity, but we still wanted to show you how much fun we had participating in the couple activities!
Wanna know more about the new Qool Weekend activity for couples? It’s a cookie class, aptly named QOOKIELICIOUS! Available for Qool Weekend guests who check in on Fridays, Saturdays and Public Holidays only - you’ll get to roll out the cookie dough, cut it using the cookie cutter, and decorate the cookies with icing after they are baked! Aren’t you just drooling already?
The hotel has an infinity pool that is open round the clock – that’s right, it’s opened 24-hours! Feast your eyes on splendid panoramic views of Orchard Road and its surroundings whilst you float languidly in the pool. There are even 2 floats up for grabs! The pool area is equipped with coffee machines, as well as lots of water and isotonic drinks. We thought this was a really nice touch!
On Saturdays, there are Movie Nights by the Pool where you can actually watch from the pool itself. What a novel experience, huh! During our stay, Jurassic World was screened and it was really fun watching the dinosaurs run wild whilst bobbing on our floats.
The staff handed out chips at the start of the movie as well, which was great for the whole experience!
The gym lies adjacent to the pool, which is open round-the-clock and perfect for a late-night workout! It’s fitted with all the equipment you could possibly need – treadmills, bench presses, weights etc.
There is also a steam bath and sauna that is free for all guests to use. We loved warming up in here after our chilly swim!
There are also showers which allow guests to continue using the facilities after check-out.
One thing that we never quite liked about staycations would be the 2pm check-in time as well as the noon check-out time. There were always so many things to do, and so little time! The Quincy Hotel has come up with the solution to this conundrum – you can choose between an early check-in time at 10am or late check-out at 4pm on weekdays. Now you can sleep in all you want – score!
There’s a strip of glass panel in the pool that allows you to look down at the street below whilst swimming. How trippy is that! Look up from the Lobby’s alfresco area and you can catch a glimpse of the pool from down below as well.
These LED chairs are a really cool fixture! Enjoy your evening cocktail whilst seated on them and watch as they change in all colours of the rainbow.
There’s really not much reason for you to leave The Quincy Hotel but should you wish to, Orchard Road and Newton Hawker Centre are both just a stone’s throw away.
Lose yourself in the myriad of shopping malls or gaze down at the streets below from ION Gallery, which is a free observatory that not many people know about!
Newton Hawker Centre is also just a MRT stop away from Orchard Road and is where you can find every delicious local delight jampacked into one space. This place is always good for satisfying that good old hawker food craving, if you know what I mean!
