An artsy stay with a hint of heritage and a large dose of comfort.
The distinctive colonial-style architecture of Rendezvous Hotel has always been a beautiful sight for anyone in the Bras Basah and Bugis District. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the modern and contemporary interior once we stepped into the lobby, which exuded a restful and soothing ambience. It has that elegant lounge-y aesthetic that makes you want to kick back and have a cocktail.
To our delight, there were vibrant art installations that pervaded every corner of the lobby, brightening the atmosphere with a kaleidoscope of colours. Having heard about the hotel’s constant collaborations with art galleries, art schools, art centres, and various national art events like Art Stage Singapore and Singapore Biennale, we looked forward to having a cozy stay at this unconventional hotel.
And we must say – we were extremely impressed! The bold and inspiring art features throughout the hotel, and even within the rooms, perfectly complement the heritage of the neighbourhood it is located in.
We found ourselves reluctant to leave The Library, a well-curated living room filled with plush armchairs and a bar offering refreshing cocktails. It was a wonderful place to just unwind and chill at after a long day. In addition, the friendly and attentive service staff certainly made our stay a smooth and comfortable experience!
The very first thing we noticed when we entered the room was the colourful designs on top of the writing desk! The top three floors of the hotel are all arts-themed rooms — Retro and Performing Arts themes. Ours was Retro-themed, and it certainly made the room more cheerful and vibrant. The highlight, however, has got to be the plush and cozy king-sized bed. The mattress is incredibly thick – we had such a hard time waking up from a good night’s sleep. Also, the pillows were just so soft and fluffy, you will feel as if you’re floating on a cloud!
In addition, we got a bird’s eye view of Chijmes from the comforts of our room. Not to mention the lush greenery and cityscape that unfolded before our eyes. The room also boasted a gorgeous leather armchair right by the window, where we could happily browse our favourite magazines and books. Staying at the Club Room also meant access to the Club Rendezvous Lounge – read more about it below!
Comprising a living room and a bedroom, this room was incredibly spacious! Can you spot the mask from Phantom of The Opera in the photo? Yes, this is a Performing Arts-themed room!
The attention to detail was impeccable, down to even having cushion covers with musical notes to complement the theme of the room.
We also made good use of the velvety couch – it was so relaxing to just lie on it and indulge in watching television programmes. We were also rewarded with panoramic views of Singapore’s skyline!
With a spacious living area on top of a bedroom, the Junior Suite is where comfort meets style. We particularly loved the exquisite heritage-inspired tile patterns!
The suite also has a huge bathtub and rainshower – perfectly suited for those who love to recharge by having long refreshing showers or a fun bubble bath. With both a velvety couch and a leather armchair in the living room, you’ll be pleasantly spoilt for choice on where you should lounge at!
The Deluxe Plus rooms are Peranakan-themed. A comfy fit for two people, it also has a plush leather armchair for you to lounge in while watching television. You will also be rewarded with a view overlooking the Singapore skyline, or the hotel pool! One quirky fact about the toilets – they have a bidet feature.
The Deluxe Room is starkly different from the other rooms and suites at Rendezvous Hotel Singapore! It is decidedly minimalist chic, with a predominantly white interior complemented with a marble side table and a marble sink. Classy, elegant and cozy – it is everything you could wish for and more! Use the complimentary “Handy” smartphone to plan your exploration routes around the city. Located on the higher floors, you’re guaranteed to have a mesmerizing view of the city’s skyline.
Situated at the hotel lobby, The Library is the perfect place to just kick back and relax in a cozy armchair with a delicious cocktail in hand. Lovingly crafted by the mixologists behind the bar, these refreshing and unique creations will have you addicted to every sip you take.
Our cocktails even had colourful licorice lace candy in it! The soothing ambience is complemented by lounge music, designer displays, and an impressive selection of premium wines, beers and spirits. Be sure not the miss the Movie Nights at The Library where special cocktails featured in the movie will be served for guests to try (e.g. Highball in The Great Gatsby). You can check out the hotel’s Facebook page for more information on this.

Did you know that a famous Nasi Padang restaurant used to take the place of Rendezvous Hotel? The Rendezvous Hock Lock Kee Nasi Padang restaurant has built an impressive reputation since the 1950s, particularly for serving a gastronomic array of Western Sumatran cuisine.
Known as one of Singapore’s finest Nasi Padang restaurants, it had such a memorable presence that the developers named the hotel after the restaurant!
Still sought after by the young and old today, you can make your way to The Central at Clarke Quay and have yourself a scrumptious plate of Nasi Padang!
The impressive grand facade of the hotel is attributed to the fact that it is located within a colonial building which was later restored!
Built between the late 1800s to early 1900s, the exterior of the Rendezvous Hotel truly makes it stand out amongst other modern contemporary buildings in the vicinity.
The Rendezvous Hotel Singapore is extremely supportive of the local arts scene, and has multiple collaborations and initiatives with the local arts community. Guests can expect to see unique and vibrant art installations all over the hotel, which provide great backdrops or props for some Insta-worthy shots!
The bodies of work on display are also made available for guests to view and purchase! So if there’s something you like… just check the description for the price! P.S. If you spot this life-sized face at The Library, don’t freak out. It’s an one-of-a-kind design piece that combines form and function – because it’s actually a very comfy armchair! How cool is that?
Rendezvous Hotel is steps away from the buzz of the city. It is a stone’s throw away from malls and various cultural attractions, from museums to churches.
Located in the centre of Singapore’s Arts and Heritage district, the area surrounding the hotel is packed full of snazzy art and scrumptious bites. It’s also a short 5 to 10-minute walk to Bras Basah and Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. It certainly can’t get any more convenient than this!
The Rochor Beancurd has been a hot local favourite since the 1950s! It is one of Singapore’s quintessential breakfast and dessert item, best paired with a hot and crispy youtiao or butterfly bun. For all the beancurd fanatics, head to LE Confectionery just a few stores down if the Rochor Beancurd isn’t satisfying enough. They are home to soft and silky beancurd tarts that will simply melt in your mouth with every bite! Be warned: they are extremely addictive as well.
The School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA) is home to the quaint Kki cafe which serves delicious tarts and pastries, as well as the Little Drom Store which sells all kinds of quirky stationery and knick-knacks.
Have a relaxing time doing some retail therapy and browsing the unique merchandise, or take photos with the fluffy Craftholic plushies located right outside the Kki Cafe. Make sure you leave space in your stomach for some sweet Japanese-style desserts at Kki Cafe!
The National Museum of Singapore and the Singapore Arts Museum are just a stone’s throw away from the hotel. There are many free exhibits that are beautiful even to the non-art enthusiast. Spend an hour or two here admiring the exquisite artwork or even just the gorgeous architecture of the buildings dating back to the 19th century.
