“Thoughtful service was a mong the aspects that I love about the hotel. Efficient and friendly staff were at hand to provide my needs from the room to airport transfers.”
Hotel Boss seemed to us as nothing more than a nondescript hotel that doesn’t boast of much, yet is one that has its guests leaving more than satisfied. With accessibility, convenience and affordability as its main selling points, Hotel Boss offers a stay right in the heart of Singapore – at an extremely modest price tag. Imagine our surprise when we found out that Hotel Boss is actually the second largest hotel in Singapore with a total of 1,500 rooms, coming in right after Marina Bay Sands. Bet you didn’t see that coming!
Situated only a three-minute walk away from Lavender MRT station, getting to Hotel Boss is extremely easy. This also meant that travelling around Singapore was a total breeze for us! But we didn’t even have to take the public transport to start our adventure; for the districts of Bugis, Kampong Glam and Little India are found just a stone’s throw away from the hotel.
At Hotel Boss, comfort is of utmost importance. Cost is secondary, though we found that whatever we were paying for was worth our every cent. Say hello to cosy rooms and basic amenities, alongside a sky terrace, outdoor pool and gym – all at incredibly affordable prices that’ll put a smile on the face of even the most money-conscious traveller. This room fits up to two people and comes complete with a private balcony, which provides that bit of extra space for when we needed to take a little breather. The balcony allowed us to step outside to enjoy a cup of coffee or simply relax with our other half. Definitely a good choice for couples!
All rooms are also equipped with an electronic safe to store important valuables. Cleverly hidden away in one of the drawers, we could easily enjoy our stay here with a peace of mind knowing that our things were in safe hands.
Fitted with both a queen bed and a single bed, the Triple Room of this hotel near Bugis is ideal for families or friends travelling in groups. Accommodating up to three persons, the Triple is tastefully furnished to give guests just enough room to kick back and unwind after a long day.
Perk up the morning with a cup of coffee or tea, which are complimentary for all guests to enjoy. There’s also a mini refrigerator for us to store the goodies we bought from the convenience store downstairs. Our ice-creams were still cold and yummy when we took them out the next day!
The perfect room choice for guests travelling with their families, the Family (Balcony) comes with two queen beds. With more than adequate space for four persons, this room also has a private balcony overlooking the atrium – excellent for some good ole family bonding time. These rooms are limited in number and are highly popular (especially among families), so do book in advance to secure one!
Featuring a queen bed, a posh armchair and a private balcony with amazing views of the city, this room is another luxurious choice for couples. Want to treat your significant other to a little something special? This room will do the trick!
The Standard Double is the most basic option out of all the rooms, but it surely doesn’t deliver any less comfort. Indeed, we felt right at home within its cosy interior that overlooks the atrium of this Singapore hotel.
Travelling with a friend and looking for an option that’s not overly fancy? Look no further than Hotel Boss’ Standard Twin room! Fitted with two single beds, it gave us a little bit more of our own privacy and space while still sharing the same room in this hotel in Singapore.
The Superior Double comes with an elegantly-designed bathroom, where we took a refreshing shower after a long day out. The 40” LED SmartTV was a nice touch as well; it allowed us to surf the Internet, stream Youtube in HD, as well as gain access to hotel information, guest services and how to get around this hotel near Bugis. We could even toggle to the World Radio Station and listen to some tunes!
No good hotel room is complete without fast-speed WiFi access, right? After all, going on a holiday doesn’t mean that anyone has to disconnect. Here, all rooms come with complimentary WiFi access, with each room having its own unique password – which means that we could still stay connected with all our friends and update our Instagram with loads of vacation pictures from this hotel in Singapore!
Superior Double (City View)
We woke up to lovely city views in the Superior Double (City View) room. The large glass window is perfect for staring out at the skyline; it was admittedly rather difficult for us to even get out of bed!
Superior Twin (City View)
With two single beds and a view overlooking the city skyline, believe us when we say we really made ourselves comfortable and didn’t want to leave. Remember to call dibs on the bed closest to the window to get the best views!
The Premier is an excellent choice for couples who’d like to take their vacation up a notch in this Singapore hotel. Tuck each other into bed, order room service and dine in bed for a cosy experience. We also have to say that the red armchair sitting in the corner of the room also adds that extra touch of class to the decor!
Have a good cuppa at
A fresh new addition to this hotel in Singapore, Gloria Jean’s Coffees is located on the first floor just next to Lobby A. After feeling a little tired and worn out from walking around the whole day, we dropped by Gloria Jean’s for a cup of coffee and some sweet treats to replenish our energy! It was lovely to just sit back, relax and enjoy the lovely ambience of the hotel lobby while we took our time to savour our drinks.
Be spoilt for choice
This was the thing that we really looked forward to – indulging in a sumptuous buffet breakfast. Available at Papasan 17 and Jubilicious, these two restaurants serve up hearty breakfasts that comprise Asian and Western cuisines. Muslim guests, you don’t have to worry – Jubilicious is Halal-certified, so go ahead and eat your fill. Our favourite was the roast potatoes, which we simply could not get enough of. Try them for yourselves to see what we mean!
The buffet breakfast is available from 6:30am until 10:30am, after which you may also enjoy other A La Carte items off the restaurants’ standard menus.
Alternatively, swing by Gills N Shells or Tocha Bistro or Char Grill Bar for some drinks to go along with the food.
Craving for some local fare? Head to Kopi Roti, where a myriad of toasts and local delights await you. However, we were feeling more for Chinese food, and the adjacent Nan Jing Restaurant provided just the venue.
Live life in the slow lane
The Sky Terrace on the 4th floor of the building provides guests with a place where they can take a step back, relax and enjoy a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life below. We even made a couple of new friends here!
Take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool or recline in one of the chairs by the poolside (and maybe, even have a little snooze). As we didn’t bring our swimwear with us this time, we settled for dipping our toes in the water and lounging in the chairs by the pool. We’ll be back with our swimsuits next time!
Towels are also made available for guests to use near the toilets at no additional charge. Talk about being thoughtful!
We liked the thought of keeping fit whilst on vacation, and loved the option of working up a sweat in the gym overlooking the pool. Of course, whether we took that option up or not remains a secret!
For a quick massage fix, we settled in one of the Rest N Go chairs at the Sky Terrace and felt refreshed within minutes. For something a little more indulgent, Qili Foot Massage offers foot reflexology, neck and body massage, full body massage, as well as manicure and pedicure services.
Yes, you heard us right – a 24-hour food court, right in this hotel near Bugis! We felt peckish in the middle of the night, and immediately headed downstairs to quell those late night hunger pangs.
Worried that the kids are going to be bored during your stay here? Don’t fret! The hotel has its very own indoor children’s playground to keep the little ones entertained – no matter rain or shine! The hotel’s self-service laundromat can also be found just a few steps away from the playground, allowing parents to keep an eye on their children whilst doing laundry.
Not only is there a whole assortment of food options to choose from, there are also two famous stalls that we could dine at – Founder Bak Kut Teh and Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice – at the hotel itself. No more having to travel long and far for good food when it’s located right at the hotel’s doorstep!

Little India is a bustling cultural district of activity located just a 10-minute walk away from the hotel. Have a glimpse into the lives of the Singaporean Indian community, with sights, sounds and smells that truly paints a picture of what it’s like to be Indian in Singapore.
Make a stop at the Hindu temples, spoil yourself with some Indian sweet (or savoury) treats, or purchase something from the many stalls lined up along the streets. We took lots of photos of ourselves donning vibrant flower garlands! ear one of those flower garlands around your neck and don’t forget to take lots of photos!
Little India is also home to the 24-hour Mustafa Centre, where you can find pretty much everything. From household items and electronics to jewellery and groceries, Mustafa Centre is a one-stop shop that meets the needs and wants of all kinds of shoppers.
Arab Street is one of the areas in Singapore that is littered with cafés – most of which are Halal-certified. Take your pick from an abundance of options serving up a variety of cuisines, but there’s no need to have a headache over which café to visit! We dedicated a whole afternoon just hopping from one establishment to another.
For those of you shopaholics who just can’t wait to go on a shopping spree, you’re in luck! There’s no need for you to travel all the way to Orchard Road, because Bugis, apart from being a café heaven, is also a shopping paradise in itself! The best part? You can reach Bugis within a few minutes from your hotel, and on foot too.
Make your way to Haji Lane, where indie boutiques line both sides of the street. Here, we found hipster fashion items from local designers as well as other cool shops selling products like yoga apparel, toys and gadgets.
If you’re looking for a steal, you can head over to Bugis Street! With three levels of shops selling apparel at much cheaper prices than your usual shopping malls, you’re sure to find something you like here. The first floor also has a number of stalls selling yummy quick bites, so we didn’t have to worry about getting hungry while doing our shopping.
Searching for international brands? There are two malls that you can check out – Bugis+ and Bugis Junction – both of which have a plethora of shops selling clothes, food, beauty products and many others. Bugis+ also has a cinema where you can catch the latest blockbuster movies.
You can also make a visit to Golden Mile Complex in the area. Home to a Thai supermarket and many Thai food stalls, Golden Mile Complex is known as Singapore’s “Little Thailand”. Indeed, we felt like we were transported to Thailand once we stepped inside the building! Transport yourself to Thailand when you step inside this building!
