Deluxe Balcony Room

Unlike the Deluxe Room, the Deluxe Balcony Room of this hotel in the city centre comes with the inclusion of a fully-furnished balcony that’s dressed in accents of grey and brown against the pop of greenery from nature. Complete with rattan-woven furniture for lounging around with a book and mug of coffee, or for the clinking of cocktail glasses as the evening backons, we found the balcony to be a welcoming space for some fresh air.

The Deluxe Balcony room in this city hotel is simply ideal for a romantic staycation or a weekend retreat with your best friend. Spend the night chatting under the stars before stepping back in for a good night’s rest, or sleep in till noon and have brunch with a view. Other than an adjacent balcony, the room comes befitted with coffee and tea making facilities, mini fridge and high-speed WiFi. To top it all off? A lavish king-sized bed and a pillow menu of hard and soft pillows await as well! For a no-frills room that has it all – the Deluxe Balcony Room is definitely it.

30 Bencoolen Deluxe Room

Deluxe Room

At 23 square metres, the Deluxe Room may not be the epitome of luxurious in terms of spaciousness, but it certainly does make the perfect cocoon for a couple’s staycation. Cosy up with your significant other on the comfortable king-sized bed as you watch television, or order room service up to your doorstep for when you feel like having breakfast in bed. There’s no reason not to treat yourself like royalty while you’re on a staycation in this hotel in Singapore!

Tuck into delectable dishes at Local Restaurant and Bar

We were incredibly impressed with the menu choices, which featured stellar highlights such as the Local Nasi Lemak, 30 Ben Beef Burger and Asian Vongole amongst a dizzying array of other Asian and Western options. The fusion dishes were impeccable and flavoursome! We also loved the delicious sides, namely the Spam Fries and the Har Cheong Wings – absolutely yummy. This in-house restaurant also boasts a plethora of mocktails. Go for the must-try specialty known as the Local Freeze! The distinct sour plum flavour was something we really savoured down to the last sip.

To round it up, the warm ambience courtesy of the anodized trellis ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows made the informal space very comfortable to dine in. Whether you choose the hearty buffet spread and aromatic coffee pairing or opt for the easy breezy all-day dining, your stay at this hotel in Singapore will be nothing short of fantastic.

Don’t we all love those dreamy infinity pools that provide superb vantage points of the surrounding landscapes and vistas? 30 Bencoolen’s rooftop pool, perched on the 15th floor, does not disappoint. We loved how the 14-metre pool was simple yet alluring with its emerald green accents. Sun worshippers can get quite the tan up here by chilling on one of the sun loungers. For those who prefer to dip in at night, enjoy a languid swim beneath the dazzling canopy of stars above you.

Unique Rafflesia motifs dot the interiors

If you look close enough, you will be able to spot these intricate Rafflesia-like patterns all around the hotel from the lobby area, furniture to the ceiling. Backed by warm lighting, these motifs really give the hotel added style and class as well as a consistent overall theme – ooh lala!

30 Bencoolen Hotel Lobby

Hotel is named after Bengkulu, Indonesia

You may find Bencoolen to be quite a quirky name for a district. Here’s a brief history lesson to enlighten you! Bencoolen was named after Bengkulu, which was located on the west coast of Sumatra, by the British in 1685. When founder Sir Stamford Raffles came to Singapore in 1819, several Bencoolen men accompanied him during his sojourn and settled in that particular area. Now known as Bencoolen Street, this precinct was named based on this significant historic reference.

Reduction in car traffic by 50%

In a bid to be more environmentally friendly, the hotel has seen a reduction in traffic lanes from four to just two lanes. This is to facilitate more pedestrian space where people can walk or ride their bicycles hassle-free. A pretty awesome effort right?

Singapore Art Museum

For the culture vultures

For those who are looking for the best that Singapore’s art scene has to offer, you can go museum-hopping or visit different cultural spaces around the area. Simply take a short four-minute stroll to the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and the Singapore Art Museum at Queen Street ([email protected]) which is just a further three-minute walk away. Both SAM and [email protected] focus mainly on contemporary art in Southeast Asia, and are brimming with interactive and colourful exhibits no matter the theme. Move on to the National Museum (five-minute walk from hotel) and National Gallery (15-minute walk) to marvel at more art pieces which pertain more to Singapore’s heritage and history itself.

For those who want to experience the vibrant cultures that our multicultural society has to offer, try visiting Little India for colourful sights and tantalising smells or head to Chinatown to interact with locals, visit temples and indulge in street food while exploring the bustling markets.

Nobu-ya

For the foodies and shopaholics

They don’t call Singapore a true “food paradise” for nothing! If anything, Singaporeans of different races and religions all bond over one true love – food. Foodies, rejoice as you tuck in to good ole’ local fare at Makansutra Gluttons Bay by the Esplanade (six-minute walk) or tuck into other delicious cuisines at the wide range of dining options available. Restaurants and cafes litter the streets so be rest assured that you will never go hungry! Be spoilt for choice with authentic Japanese cuisine at Nobu-ya or drop by cafes like Montana Brew Bar and Curious Palette.

Once you’ve satisfied your growling tummy, hit the shopping streets for some retail therapy! After all, the famous Orchard Shopping Belt with mega malls like Ion Orchard, Plaza Singapura and Somerset 313 are all just a train stop away, or a 15 to 20-minute walk away. For budget shoppers who would like to bargain for cheap souvenirs, make a beeline for Bugis Village where you’ll be able to score some thrift buys and little knick-knacks. For those who prefer it upscale, then the Shoppes at Marina Bay will do you just right. Whatever your craving or budget, there’s surely something for everyone.

For the night owls

Can’t sleep? Well, good news for the night owls, because the party starts when the sun goes down! Head to the local watering holes near the hotel for a drink or two, or head to Clarke Quay or CHIJMES to soak in the vibrant nightlife that Singapore has to offer. Get those glasses clinking as you sit back and enjoy chill vibes with the accompaniment of live music bands.

For those who prefer an alternative mode of entertainment (sans alcohol), head to Gardens by the Bay (15-minute walk) to be dazzled by the Garden Rhapsody light and sound show from 7.45pm-8.45pm. Still too early? How about going for a midnight movie at The Cathay? Snag yourself a bucket of popcorn or a tray of nachos and you’re all set for the night! Don’t worry if it ends too late – after all, your comfy abode is only a five-minute walk away!
