The Resort

Feel at home in a place that exudes an old-world charm complemented by classic Filipino hospitality

The Funny Lion resort

The Funny Lion has to be one of the most vintage and sweetest resorts in Coron we’ve ever stayed at. This boutique accommodation in Northern Palawan has an old-world feel to it — its interiors are adorned with antiques and wooden furniture while the exteriors keep you close to nature, making it eco-chic too. From the moment we stepped foot in The Funny Lion, the safari-like resort put us in a more nature-appreciating disposition. In the lobby, we were served with fresh fruit drinks, and from the outdoor jacuzzi, we could overlook the virgin mangrove forest.

The Funny Lion is also very convenient because it’s only a 30-minute drive from Busuanga Airport. They even gave us a complimentary adventure pack to help eager guests like us prepare for their Coron adventure. This intimate resort has a total of 31 rooms for everyone to enjoy the exclusivity of the accommodation. We knew from all these features that this resort in Coron was truly unique and would give us a very comfortable vacation in a home-like environment. Rooms

Keep cosy and feel light in heavenly and rustic-designed bedrooms

The Funny Lion Cub Room

Cub Room

On a vacation with your barkada? The Cub Room is the ultimate accommodation for travelling groups who are in it for the fun. Aside from its two twin-sized beds, this room also has a pull-out bed to sleep one to two more people. We don’t know about you, but this kind of setting took us back to our childhood when we’d have sleepovers. What an enjoyable way to bond! The Cub Room also has coffee and tea making facilities, air-conditioning, LED TV, safety deposit box, and a refrigerator. It was already a complete package, and we didn’t expect any less.

The Funny Lion King Room

King Room

At 25 sqm, the King Room is suitable for small families or couples on a sweet getaway. This room has one king-sized bed and a pull out bed, both of which your kids will surely enjoy jumping and rolling on! With white and brown hues, everything looks soothing to the eyes, making falling asleep and unwinding an effortless task. The room also comes with a working desk where you can place your mugs, laptop, and other writing materials just in case you’re in town for a bleisure trip.

The Funny Lion Pride Room

Pride Room

Like the first two accommodations, the Pride Room has complete amenities. What makes this room standout is the veranda. We always prefer it when hotels make use of natural light, and this Coron resort did not disappoint. We welcomed the sunlight as it penetrated through the big window and enjoyed our afternoon just staying in, and lying cosy on the bed as we appreciated the view of the infinity pool from our window.

Things To Do

Start your ultimate Coron vacation right at the resort!

The Hunt Restaurant Off The Menu Seafood Platter

Eat your fill

The Hunt Restaurant is the resort’s main eatery, and it’ll leave you wanting for nothing. It serves freshly caught seafood and Asian fusion cuisines such as their Off The Menu Seafood Platter which is comprised of prawns, crabs, mussels, and clams. We also recommend their Asian Crackling Pork Belly and Crab-O-Nara if you’re looking for something a little heavier for a full day of activities. The Hunt is right beside the Infinity Pool and you can choose whether you want to eat indoors or outdoors. Choosing to eat indoors will surround you with an old world ambience consisting of hardwood and antique furniture.

Drink to merriment

The Funny Lion has a Happy Hour from 5pm to 7pm, when the resort serves their signature safari-themed cocktails. Their rooftop bar, called Pride Rock Deck, overlooks the Coron Passage and Lajala Island; you can sip your cocktails while enjoying the view from the jacuzzi. And yes, Pride Rock Deck is open to outside guests as well. Aside from this, the resort has a Saturday Grill Buffet from 6pm to 9pm. We savoured every morsel of their finest grilled dishes, cocktail in hand, and the beautiful view right in front of us. How chill is that?

Relax in the Infinity Pool and Jacuzzi

Their infinity pool and jacuzzi look out to the sunset so it’s an ideal place to be if you want to capture a tranquil and beautiful moment in Coron. You will also see a cove with virgin mangroves, and kayak trails from the pool deck. The resort also features complimentary bikes and two rooftop plunge-pools. We felt so close to nature as we relaxed by the pool and took photos of the breathtaking skyscape as the sun went down. Before retiring to bed, you can take advantage of Sea Tree Spa for the most relaxing treatments and massages. It’s a perfect way to end your day.

Book the ultimate Coron tour

The Funny Lion partnered with AL Linsangan of Calamianes Expedition Eco Tours, which means the resort can help you book a guided tour of the islands. Their tours cover Siete Pecados, Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoons, Calachuchi Beach, and Coral Gardens. They will already include everything you’ll need such as van and boat transfers, life vests, meals, and entrance fees. We found it very convenient that we didn’t have to contact different people for accommodations, transfers, and tours, because we got all of that in The Funny Lion already. Piece of cake!

Fun Facts

The Funny Lion

The resort’s name
was inspired by Calauit Safari

Calauit Safari is home to giraffes, zebras, and impalas whose ancestors came straight from Africa delivered to the Philippines during the Marcos Era. The owner’s son thought it was funny that the safari didn’t have any lions, ergo the resort’s name, The Funny Lion.

The Funny Lion snacks

They bring daily snacks
to your room

The resort leaves complimentary snacks in guests’ room daily. Most of the time these are fruits and Filipino merienda such as sago’t gulaman and buko juice. If you’re lucky, you’ll even get cold snacks like chocolate jelly shots.

The Funny Lion adventure pack

They give you
an adventure pack

When we entered our room, we were pleasantly surprised to find adventure packs lying on the bed. The resort is thoughtful enough to give its guests a backpack and bandanas to prepare them for their Coron adventures under the sun. Simple gestures like this put this Coron resort on the map, in our opinion.

The Funny Lion

The resort is part of the One-of
Collection family

One-of Collection manages hotels and resorts that seek to connect travellers, local and foreign alike, to local history, people and culture. The Funny Lion is a proud member of this conglomerate of resorts. This antique resort was a product of One-of Collection’s Project Echo. Project Echo is all about transforming accommodations to sustainable leisure resorts. Part of this initiative is the use of organic modern architecture and preserving cultural heritage, all of which is reflected in The Funny Lion.
