Milk-white sands, lush colourful gardens and sparkling water. What else can you ask for for an ideal getaway? Carved into the most beautiful beach in Nusa Dua in Bali, The Laguna Resort & Spa is home to the world’s first swimmable set of lagoons nestled amidst a vivid kaleidoscope of greenery. Along with its luxurious spa facilities, and spacious sun lounge beach area offering a gorgeous view of the Indian Ocean, it’s almost a challenge deciding how to start pampering yourself!
Once we stepped into The Laguna Resort & Spa, we couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by its vivid combination of lush plants and sapphire lagoons. The chime of a gong, followed by the peaceful melody of the traditional Balinese Bamboo Xylophone, welcomed us as we stepped into the reception area. The lobby even had a grand chandelier, giving the Balinese interior a touch of elegance. We marvelled at the resort’s decor, which was an intricate blend of indigenous influences and classy grandeur. This private paradise definitely succeeded in enchanting us right from the onset.
We always love rooms that gives us a glimpse of the ocean, and the Ocean View Suite offers the perfect blend of seafront comfort and sheltered privacy. The spacious dining area opens up to an equally wide balcony that boasts a generous view of the resort’s lagoons with the Indian Ocean in the background.
There is even a lounge chair on the balcony, which we took naps on while soaking in the resort’s peaceful atmosphere. Back indoors, we loved how the smooth wooden floors, artfully-placed local artefacts and quaint furnishings masterfully evoked an immersive Balinese touch to our stay. While we were always reminded that we were on holiday someplace exotic, we never felt out of place.
And that was only the first floor! The suite has two levels, with the second comprising an expansive bedroom leading to a private balcony, and an equally large bathroom. The upper level gave an additional layer of privacy to our already peaceful stay, and we found that it was a perfect place to retire to after dinner. To top it off, the private balcony allowed us to spend most nights sipping wine and enjoying the sea breeze. We truly felt like we had been transported into our own private paradise, without any cares in the world!
For those who desire more space in their accommodation, the Ocean View Suite has a Deluxe version as well.
Book a stay in the Deluxe room if you are looking to make your stay a cosy one. We found it difficult to get up from the extremely comfortable King-sized bed, and took every opportunity we could to laze about in the room.
We love the fact that there are many variants of the Deluxe Room to choose from – the Deluxe Garden View and Deluxe Lagoon View has a private balcony overlooking an immaculately cultivated garden and a beautiful lagoon respectively, while the Deluxe Lagoon Access gave us the chance to dip into one of the lagoons directly from our very own room.
The Deluxe Studio is larger than the Deluxe Room, and is equipped with a massive TV complete satellite channels and a DVD player. We watched our favourite movies from the comfort of our bed, and even managed to catch the latest episodes of the various TV series that we had been following. If you prefer access to one of the resort’s lagoons over a balcony offering a garden view, switch to the Deluxe Studio Lagoon Access version instead!
Let’s face it: we all secretly want additional space in our rooms. The Executive Suite satisfies this inner desire by having a separate living room from the bedroom. As there is access to the suite’s private balcony from both rooms, we were able to appreciate the garden view both from the comfort of our bed, and while enjoying a movie on the sofa! The Deluxe Executive Suite gives us even more space, while the Lagoon Access variant substitutes the garden view for the chance to soak in the water straight from your suite.
The first thing we did when we entered the Grande Lagoon Suite was to jump into the private lagoon, which is almost as large as the suite itself! Boasting an extra extra bedroom, massive dining hall and even a poolside terrace, this suite is the ideal place for a luxurious family vacation. The suite’s balcony on its second level is perfect for savouring the panoramic ocean view, which we did after churning out a few tunes on the in-suite piano.
If you love massages (like us), you will love the Hibiscus Villa. With its very own massage table next to the villa’s private pool, the Hibiscus Villa offers the perfect opportunity to soothe away all of your aches and pains.
Returning to the villa for a relaxing afternoon massage soon became our favourite activity, before taking a nap in the garden gazebo. The villa also has an incredibly comfortable bed to sink into, making late morning sleep-ins extremely inviting.
Offering an unparallelled luxury experience, the Pool Villa has everything we needed to make our stay heavenly. We took advantage of our direct access to the garden terrace for refreshing morning swims in the private pool, which was an ideal way to start the day! We were also spoilt for choice on where to have our dinner, as the villa has both a garden gazebo and spacious dining room. For those wanting to give their families the luxurious stay of their lives, the Pool Villa has a Two Bedroom version.
Head towards the resort’s lobby area for an immersive experience into the rich Balinese culture. Destination Discovery is a concierge curated program complimentary for in-house guests, and gives the opportunity to learn about Balinese art and history. The program comprises a tour of the resort’s various Balinese artefacts, followed by a sampling of Jamu, a traditional herbal drink, and ends with the nightly Fire Dance performance at the Cascade Bar. Do sign up for this program if you love Balinese history or simply want some variety in your beach vacation!
The Lagoon Spa is situated in the middle of the resort and surrounded by crystal-clear lagoons – it’s the ideal location to rejuvenate your entire body! The spa offers a variety of treatment options, such as its signature customised massage or the exotic chocolate treatment. For those desiring more energetic activities, try out the yoga lessons conducted by the in-house therapist or the fitness classes hosted at the 24-hour Fitness Centre. The spa even has treatments catered for both men and children.
With an excellent mix of pan-Asian and international cuisine, Bayubiru serves mouthwatering buffets to overwhelm your every taste bud. From the signature Balinese lobster custard with caviar to home-made gelatos, every meal served in the restaurant is an exquisite gourmet affair. Plus, Bayubiru features open kitchens where you can observe the chefs whipping up the palatable dishes. Visit on Wednesdays and Sundays to enjoy traditional Balinese dance performances as well! If you wish to dine with a view, the restaurant offers a panoramic view of the resort’s lagoons and Hindu temple.
Head to Arwana for premium quality seafood – located just by the beach, this restaurant even has an oyster and sushi bar to satiate your every craving. The restaurant has an extensive a-la-carte menu, as well as a delectable afternoon tea. If you’re up for something more unique, opt for the degustation menu where you’ll be able to sample a variety of signature dishes at one go. Our favourite part about this restaurant would be its location – the restaurant brings ‘dining with a view’ to a whole new level, where patrons can dine against the backdrop of panoramic ocean views.
The resort’s deli, Cornerstone, offers a la minute delicacies and a private dinner within its wine cellar. If you want to enjoy a chill drink by the poolside, simply hit up any of the resort’s three bars – Kulkul Bar, Cascade Garden Lounge, and Sapphire Bar.
Held twice a week, this celebration of Bali’s preserved rituals is readily available for the resort’s guests. The ceremony starts with a breathtaking fire dance at the Cascade Bar, before guests are led to the resort’s temple for a classic Balinese ceremony. The evening then concludes with a sumptuous buffet at Banyubiru, with Balinese dancers performing a traditional Legong dance. You might be lucky enough to attend a special variant of the ceremony, where a celebration to honour the full moon is held instead!
