Maison aurelia is a delightful cultural oasis in the middle of Sanur, a quaint seaside town located Southeast of Bali. With the property’s alluring blend of Balinese and Western heritage, many guests have been enraptured by the charm of this unique boutique hotel – us included!
The close proximity of the property to the beach and the sea is just a bonus, for the fun truly begins once you’ve checked in at the reception. The dazzling display of classic colonial decor in addition to top-notch hotel amenities and the peaceful atmosphere of Sanur left us with such a luxurious and homely stay experience that we wished we never had to leave!
The Camelia Room occupies a total of 36 square metres, making it a lot larger and more spacious than the usual hotel rooms we’ve been accustomed to! We were pleasantly comforted by the amount of empty space around us, This room basically put all other rooms to shame, making everywhere else seem like nothing more than a cramped storage closet.
The main attraction of the room was none other than the enormous bed that kept calling out to us to nap the day away! On top of that, there was a compact working space at the side that allowed the workaholics in us to finish up whatever pending work we had. The room also came with complimentary Durance aromatherapy products that smelled absolutely lovely.
If you feel that the Camelia Room was a little too excessive in terms of size, then prepare to get your socks knocked off with the Magnolia Room! With a whopping 54 square metres all to ourselves, it was like having our own little apartment in the middle of Sanur. The room has 2 interconnecting bedrooms; one with a king-sized bed and the other with 2 single beds. There was even a little common room where we could gather to watch television or have a glass of wine as the sun began to set.
The Mandara Spa offers a large variety of treatments that are all heavily influenced by traditional Balinese healing techniques. We especially recommend their signature Warm Bamboo Massage, where the combination of warm bamboo stalks and aromatherapy oil left us feeling more relaxed that we have in years!
For those who are more keen towards modern treatments, you’ll be happy to know that the spa also offers Elemis Spa-therapies, which were brought over from the luxurious British spa and skincare brand. We were more than happy to indulge in the skincare treatments and their superior ingredients, knowing fully well that they were bound to yield the best results for our tired bodies!
It’s always great to feel hungry in Maison Aurelia, because that usually means paying a visit to the Spice Gastrobar, where we always looked forward on sampling the delicacies that celebrity French-American masterchef Chris Salans had in store for us! Every dish was lovingly prepared, and the ingredients were delightfully fresh.
Of course, if you’re just here for the sun and sea, you’ll probably be more interested in their beach club access! Get a little slice of privacy at the beautiful Sanur beach, where a set area is reserved exclusively for hotel guests to frolic on the white sands. For some of us however, we opted for a couple of drinks at the nearby bar and simply lazed on their chairs, because after all, that’s what the holidays are for!
The outdoor jacuzzi is a godsend should you be looking for something to cool off in the summer heat! Besides spending a languid afternoon in the bubbling Jacuzzi, we also swam multiple laps in the swimming pool in a (failed) effort to keep ourselves fit whilst chilling out. The hotel’s well-equipped gym would perhaps be a better option to meet that goal, especially for those looking to keep fit during their vacation.
Interestingly, Maison Aurelia is loosely translated as the “House of Gold” in English, where the meaning is made instantaneously clear the minute you step into the hotel.
If the exquisite French-Balinese interior design wasn’t a dead giveaway, then we’d really recommend you to head back for another stay!
Do you feel extremely refreshed every time you wake up in your room? Thank the beds you sleep on, as they’re the wonder product of King Koil! Dubbed as the Hotel Grand Diamond, their signature 7-Zone Pocket Coil system within the mattress caters to any type of sleeper, whether you’re lying on your back or on your side. Now you won’t need to worry one bit about unnecessary muscle aches hindering you during your vacation!
Where do you think the genius behind the Spice Gastrobar first learnt to create a killer line-up of delicacies?
Well, as the founder of the world-famous Moziac Gastronomique Restaurant in the town of Ubud, Chris Salans had plenty of culinary practice before going on a quest to tantalise the tastebuds of every guest who visits the Maison Aurelia!
If you find yourself coming back to Maison Aurelia often, why not choose to be part of TAUZIA's privilege program?

Fly to Bali via Denpasar International Airport, which is a 25-40 minute drive from Maison Aurelia. Contact the hotel in advance to arrange a private transfer, or hire a taxi from the airport.
We recommend hiring your own private car or driver during your stay for added convenience. If not, the area is also serviced by an extensive fleet of public buses that will often get you where you need to go!
Maison Aurelia is strategically located at the Southeastern coast of Bali, which bodes good news for beach enthusiasts! A whole array of watersports, ranging from paragliding, kayaking or even deep water diving, is just a few minutes walk away.
If water sports aren’t your thing, grab a bicycle and put the pedal to the metal on the numerous cycling paths in the area. The famous Le Mayeur Museum, a memorial museum housing the artworks and personal history of painter Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur, is also a great place to while away an afternoon. Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur was fascinated by Sanur and dedicated his life there to the two things he loved the most – women and the arts. Head to the main street as dusk begins to fall, where plenty of art galleries and nightlife activities await!
If you have a penchant for nature, we recommend the Seawalker tour where you can don a helmet which lets you walk along the sea bed and among the colourful fishes. Alternatively, take a 15-minute drive to Benoa Harbour and hop on a cruise for an island hopping experience. The Nusa islands are a hot favourite among tourists and should definitely be on your list!
